UPDATE: Power restored after blown transformer in Beckley

BECKLEY, W. Va. (WVNS) —  UPDATE: Jan. 8 @ 9:40 p.m.: According to Appalachian Power, electricity has been restored to customers in the Stanaford area of Beckley. 



Several hundred Appalachian Power customers are without power after a transformer is blown in Raleigh County.

Emergency dispatchers said it happened Monday around 7:40 p.m. near Flowers Bakery on Stanaford Road in Beckley. Customers in this area are experiencing outages, including Walmart on Eisenhower Drive. 

Dispatchers said there were no accidents, and crews with AEP have been sent to the seen to investigate the cause. 

According to the power company’s website, more than 500 customers were without power. There is no timetable yet on when power will be restored.
