For World AIDS Day a Raleigh County woman spoke out about her life battling this deadly disease.
Elena Imes has been living with AIDS for 18 years. She said when she was in her 20’s she was in a sexual relationship with one man. All of a sudden she started losing weight and getting sick; until she got tested and it came back as AIDS. She was devastated and the doctors predicted she only has a year to live, but 18 years later she is still fighting.
“It is very important to get tested and although it might ruin the most romantic moment for you ever, you make sure your partner has a card a recent updated card to say where they have been tested this is where the real problem lies out in is in testing,” Imes said.
She said she hasn’t given up and the support of her friends is was keeps her going.
