The Women’s Resource Center provides women a safe haven after domestic violence and sexual assault. They are currently seeking out supplies from the community.
Samantha Sizemore, a domestic violence advocate and grant writer with the WRC, said they are in need of pajamas, sweatpants, undergarments, and baby wipes.
“When a woman comes in, she needs some comfortable clothes at the shelter and we’re just asking for things like that because we go through them so fast,“ Sizemore said.
The shelter survives using grants that go toward keeping up the building itself. Angie Price is the center’s financial coordinator and said they try to provide as much as they can, but they are in need of many essentials to provide to women. Price said she hopes the community can step in.
“But at the Women’s Resource Center, we do try to supply everything we can for these women. When a lot of them come in, a lot of them are leaving their homes. I mean they are leaving everything they know to come here for safety, so we have clothing, we have food, we have diapers, we have medical items,“ Price said.
Price also wants everyone to know help is out there, and the WRC is always around to lend a helping hand.
“You speak to someone and you ask ‘do you know where the resource center is?’ and they’re like ‘the what?’ So just being able to put the word out, even asking for simple donations with wipes you know it gets that one more person to have the thought in the back of their head of ‘well there is the resource center if I ever need to go to that place,“ Price said.
All clothing sizes are welcome when donating, but the center does have a bed bug policy that does not allow used clothing donations. Contact the center at (304) 255-2559.
