Many gathered at WVU Tech Novemeber 28 for a training workshop that involves a hot topic in the world today. A professor from West Virginia University came to Beckley to talk about Transgender Safe Zone Training.

Professor Cris Mayo said these trainings are designed to educate everyone to become a better advocate for transgender people.

“The more people we train in ways to be good advocates, the better off everyone going to be. Up to about half of trans people have tried to commit suicide. We want to get that number down significantly. We want people to know that despite the fact that they are being made into a political talking point, they are valued members of our community,” Mayo said.

Mayo said if anyone was unable to attend the training class, contact her at WVU.
