Over the past four decades, thousands of young athletes come to Beckley to showcase their skills on the court. The YMCA of Southern West Virginia welcomed 50 teams consisting of 3rd through 8th graders from all over the country.
Tournament Director Jason Logan, said it’s great to be able to continue to host this event.
“It’s been a tradition here at the YMCA to have these teams come in and compete,” Logan said. “We here all the time about how great this tournament is. And you know we just want to continue that tradition and carry on the legacy.”
Logan said despite the fact these players are young in age their skills, not so much.
“It’s amazing to watch these kids,” Logan said. “We have third grade teams playing right now. And it’s just amazing how good these kids are. And if we can help by having tournaments here to help foster that talent that these kids have and help them through all the way into middle school and high school and so forth. I mean that is what we are all about.”
With almost half a century in the making, Logan says the support is strong from courtside and beyond.
“Obviously thank you. To have a tournament last 47 years I mean that is pretty amazing within itself. But it’s a great tradition that we have here and I’m just lucky enough to be able to carry that on,” Logan said.
