HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) – The air is fresher now thanks to a new policy adopted by the Greater Huntington Parks and Recreation District.

Smoking and vaping are no longer allowed at any of the parks in the district.

The policy came about after the park board decided it’s in the best interest and welfare of Huntington residents.

Kevin Brady, the Executive Director of the Greater Huntington Parks & Recreation District, says “Which is healthier for everybody. We’ve got lots of kids here, we’ve got seniors that walk every day and they don’t want to be exposed to second-hand smoke.”

Parks that are in the district include:

  • Altizer Park
  • April Dawn Park
  • Camp Mad Anthony Wayne
  • Harris Riverfront Park
  • Harveytown Park
  • Heritage Station
  • Huntington’s Petsafe Dog Park
  • Mcclelland Park
  • Memorial Park
  • Ritter Park
  • Rose Garden
  • Rotary Park
  • Rpa Park
  • St. Cloud Commons Lodge
  • Veterans Memorial Park
  • Westmoreland Park

If you do need to smoke or vape, they ask that you now keep that in the parking lot where there will be designated disposal containers.
