On Friday March 9, 2018 the West Virginia Coalfields Highway Safety Program honored Law Enforcement Officers from five Southern West Virginia counties including Bluefield Police Department, Princeton Police Department, Mercer County Sheriff’s Department and Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.
The banquet recognized top officers and agencies for highway safety activities during the 2017 calendar year. Those activities included DUI arrests, Crash Investigations, Text and Drive Citations and many more. This event also recognized the top Child Passenger Safety Seat fitting stations from Mary’s Cradle, Mountain Heart Community Services and Monroe County Early Head Start for their great work with child seat safety.
When asked about this program the West Virginia Coalfield Highway Safety Program Coordinator, Cpl. Adam Ballard stated “We’ve reduced traffic fatalities from 41 in 2011 to 29 last year. Now that’s still 29 to many, but we are making progress and increasing the safety for everyone traveling the roadways.”
Corporal Ballard went on to say he compiled all the activity numbers for this banquet from what is submitted to him whether self-reported or through their database.
