Historic Wyoming Hotel receives grant

Wyoming County

MULLENS, WV (WVNS) — The city of Mullens may be getting some new life breathed into its historic buildings.

The Mullens Community Development Corporation just received a $5,000 grant from Brown Fields. The money will be used toward having environmental testing, economic feasibility, and structural studies done on the historic Wyoming Hotel and Webster Apartments.

Mullens Mayor, Virginia Martin, said WVU students from the MBA program, along with students from Virginia Tech’s Construction Engineering school, will be helping with the studies of both structures.

“An architect that is retired from Virginia Tech came up and toured, and they see the potential. The potential of what we can do, and you know it’s going to take some work,” Martin said.

Brown Fields will continue to help the Mullens Community Development Corporation find more grants for future research into the sites. Martin said they are hoping to renovate the hotel to be a multi-use facility with office space and lodging.
