Laurel Park in Oceana is undergoing improvements in order to make them handicap accessible.
Among the renovations are a handicap accessible swing and bathroom. The park pool is also getting a handicap lift for people with disabilities to have access to the pool.
Town Recorder Jim Cook said the renovations are a necessity for the park so nobody gets left out.
“Some of the children here that attend the local school were actually disabled and it broke our heart to see them sitting on the sidelines watching the other kids enjoy activities” Cook said. “So, to get them involved and able to use the park, that’s awesome.”
Cook said the park is used for parties, weddings, school activities, and much more, so adding handicap accessibility is an absolute must.
Laurel Park is open to everyone and the pool is scheduled to open for the summer on Memorial Day.
