Social media post leads to animal cruelty arrest

MULLENS, WV (WVNS) — A photo of a dog that went viral on Facebook led officers with the Mullens Police Department to make an animal cruelty arrest.   Ricky Hanshaw, Jr., 32, of Mullens, WV is charged with felony animal cruelty and criminal invasion of privacy.

Details on what was done to the animal have not been released, but investigators said the dog Brutus had to receive surgery at Beckley Veterinary Hospital.  Brutus is recovering in the custody of the Wyoming Paw Patrol along with his sister Ariel.  Officers said Ariel was not injured.  Anyone who like to help with Brutus’ surgery is asked to contact the Wyoming Paw Patrol at PO Box 1105, Oceana, WV 24870.

The case is still under investigation by the Mullens Police Department.  Hanshaw was arraigned and given a $15,000 bond.  He is being held in the Southern Regional Jail.  There is also a no bond hold on Hanshaw from the West Virginia State Parole Office.
