Wells explode in Wyoming County

Wyoming County

PINEVILLE, WV (WVNS) — At least one well exploded in Wyoming County.

According to the Brenton Fire Department, it happened Thursday, Oct. 3, on Indian Creek Road near Pineville. One person was injured in that explosion and was transported for second degree burns.

Firefighters told 59news they suspect as wells run dry, methane gas is building up. When the well pumps kick-in, a spark results. Methane gas build-up and an electrical spark create the ideal environment for an explosion.
