UPDATE: Trial scheduled for man accused of killing man in UTV-involved accident

PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) — Wednesday, November 4, 2020 10:30 a.m. UPDATE: A trial is set for a man accused of causing a crash that killed a man and seriously injured his wife.

In a recent status hearing, Mercer County Circuit Judge William Sadler scheduled the trial of Ricky Olivo for December 15, 2020 at 9 a.m.

Olivo is facing multiple charges, including DUI with Death, for the fatal crash in Montcalm, which happened on May 24. West Virginia State Police investigators said Olivo’s Jeep Cherokee collided with a UTV, killing the driver, Corey McKinney. Sabrina McKinney, Corey’s wife, was the lone passenger in the side-by-side. She was seriously injured in the wreck. Olivo pleaded not guilty to all charges at his indictment on Oct. 14.

A pre-trial hearing is also scheduled for Dec. 1 at 1 p.m.


PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) — Friday, June 5, 2020 10:00 a.m. UPDATE: The man investigators believe is the cause of a fatal accident in Mercer County faced a judge Thursday, June 4, 2020. Ricky Olivo of Woodstock, Virginia appeared before Mercer County Magistrate Susan Honaker.

Olivo is accused of colliding with a UTV. Corey McKinney was killed in the crash, and his wife Sabrina McKinney was seriously injured.

Probable cause was found in the case and will move on to the Mercer County Grand Jury. They will convene again in July.


MONTCALM, WV (WVNS) — ORIGINAL STORY: State Troopers from the Princeton Detachment of the West Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal accident in the Montcalm area of Mercer County. It happened around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2020.

Investigators said a Jeep Cherokee hit a UTV. The driver of the side-by-side, Corey McKinney, was killed in the collision. His wife, Sabrina McKinney was flown to the hospital with serious injuries. Her condition is not known.

The driver of the Jeep, Ricky Olivo, Jr. of Woodstock, Virginia is being charged with DUI resulting in death, DUI causing serious bodily injury and driving on a suspended license. The case is under investigation by Trooper J.L Wood.
