BECKLEY, WV (WVNS)– All week WVU Tech celebrated their third homecoming in Beckley. Saturday, Sept. 28, was the last day of events and it kicked off with a parade through uptown Beckley.
Director of University Relations at WVU Tech Jen Wood Cunningham said homecoming allows alumni to come back and reminisce about the good old days but also make new memories.
“This is so special, so special for our alumni,” Cunningham said. “I actually went to Tech myself so this is an extra special time of the year for all of us. It’s so great to be here and see everybody reminiscing together and making new memories because we are in our new home, but people are so excited to see the new campus and spend time together.”
Originally Montgomery was the home for WVU Tech, but in 2017 they fully moved to Beckley. Cunningham said the welcome from the community has been better than they expected.
“We couldn’t have asked for anything better,” Cunningham said. “Beckley has just welcomed us with open arms, such a warm reception from the members of the community and many of them you will see out here today at the parade. So we are just so thankful to have the community support.”
Homecoming weekend ended with the women’s and men’s soccer team taking ion Midway University out of Kentucky. In between the games they announced Luke Keaton and Melissa Harper as homecoming king and queen.
