BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Joyous hymns greet the cloudy Easter morning sky as churches around the world claim victory over the grave.  Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens has been literally doing that for more than six decades.

“The Easter Sunrise Service gives our families in the community the sense of peace,” said general manager Chris Besoiu.

The service has a 63-year history, to be exact. But for the 2018 service, they decided to have it where it all began.

“We have actually moved it back to one of their original locations, which is the garden of the tower,” Besoiu said.  “To give families more of a history than what they’ve been used to before.”

More than 100 early risers may not have been treated to a sunny start to the day, but the this resurrection’s celebration still brightened everyone who heard the uplifting sermon.

“What makes it special is when we have the ability to have it outside and as we’re hearing the Easter message,” Besoiu said.

Attendees were then treated to breakfast at the Blue Ridge funeral home shortly after the service concluded.
