Mt. View and River View gearing up for the Battle of the Views

MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (WVNS)– Every football season the Mt. View Golden Knights face off against the River View Raiders in the Battle of the Views.

Both Mt. View Coach Maurice Gravely and River View George Kennedy said this is a game they circle on their calendar every season.

“We’ve been taking it one day at a time,” Gravely said. “We have a lot of young kids and you know just try to get them acclimated with a new system and so once we get that in place I think we will move full force ahead.”

“Practice has been going great,” Kennedy. “We got a lot of upper classman, they have learned to lead by example. The young guys coming in they just follow their lead makes it easy for us coaches.”

Both coaches said when the season starts with a rivalry, it is not hard to get their players in the right mind set, they all know what this game means.

“You don’t over play it,” Kennedy said. “You don’t treat it any differently then any other game you would play.”

“I just look for these kids to automatically get themselves up,” Gravely said. “Who can’t get up for a game like that? You know, you’re going to be highly motivated and of course you know we want to keep the iron right here you know.”

The Golden Knights won the Battle of the Views trophy last season and River View is hoping to bring the hardware back to Bradshaw. Mt. View and River View kick off Friday, August 30 at 7:30 p.m.
