MONTGOMERY HEIGHTS, WV (WVNS) — Human remains have been found in the Montgomery Heights area of Fayette County.
Partial human remains were found in the Montgomery Heights area of Fayette County in a heavily wooded area off Route 61, Monday morning.
“We received notification on Monday from some surveyors that work for AEP stating that they thought they had found some human remains,” Chief Deputy Rod Perdue said. “At the time, our detective bureau was notified our chief detective went down to the area along with other detectives.”
This is the third set of partial remains found in the area this week. The other remains were found in Braxton and Greenbrier counties. Detectives and a forensics team from WVU Tech were sent to the area to do a grid search. During the search, they found an additional set of partial remains.
“They still need to be tested and see if they are human remains and identified as human remains,” Perdue added.
Both sets of remains will also be tested for DNA. Perdue says they are still investigating at this time.
“It’s still kind of fluid and once we retain more information, hopefully, some more articles from the search will make a determination,” he added.
He says there is no immediate threat to the public at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fayette County Sheriffs Department.
