BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Before enjoying a firework show Thursday evening, the Beckley Little League held its first Fourth of July fundraiser, and it was a pretty colorful one.

Children and families doused themselves in the colors of the rainbow for the Little Leagues’ inaugural Color Splash Celebration organized by mother and event planner, Joanna Vance.

“It’s non toxic paint powder and they throw it up in the air, and it’s just a big color fight,” Vance added.

Children filled their hands with the powder to take on their siblings, parents, and even a puppy named Potato. While the asphalt of the parking lot got a colorful makeover, Little league teams were busy on the diamond competing for the trophy in a home run derby.

Vance told 59 News the proceeds from both events will benefit the Beckley Little League’s future expenses.

“We have scholarships that help pay for players equipment and uniforms, so we have to have fundraisers to raise money for that,” Vance explained. “That’s what the color splash and home run derby is.”
