Gov. Justice asked those who travel to Myrtle Beach to get tested

Gov. Justice and state officials provide an update for media on COVID-19 preparedness and response plans. For more information about COVID-19 prevention and more, call the State’s toll-free hotline at 1-800-887-4304 or visit Coronavirus.wv.gov.

The Governor apologized for being late and stated it was due to a family medical emergency. He also asked people to remember the family of the latest COVID-19 fatality in West Virginia. He said while the state continues to reopen, if the numbers and science show negative results, the plan will be modified accordingly. In response to a question from the media Gov. Justice stated this could be mandatory masks if necessary.

After asking West Virginians to follow the guidelines as the state reopens, the Governor mentioned the loss of a Iaeger Volunteer Fire Fighters who died in a fire over the weekend. The Governor asked people to remember Russell Roberson and his family.

Around $11,072,000 has been sent to cities and counties from the CARES Act funding. The Governor plans to release an overview of all the economic numbers by the end of the week. He stated again that the state is rock solid for cash through the end of the fiscal year on June 30.

Regarding testing at state prisons facilities, only six active COVID-19 cases remain in Huttonsville. No other cases are active at West Virginia jails and prisons.

There are three active church outbreaks in West Virginia. These include 18 cases in Ohio County, 41 in Greenbrier County and nine in Boone County.

A direct care staff member at Raleigh County nursing home also tested positive. That person worked the day before and the day after the test. They were wearing a mask at the time. All staff and residents are now being tested.

Addressing people who have tested positive after traveling to Myrtle Beach, there are two of those in Raleigh County. The Governor asked anyone who has traveled there to get themselves tested.
