UPDATE: DOH crews beginning repairs on U.S. 19 in Spanishburg following sinkhole incident

SPANISHBURG, WV (WVNS) 10:50 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2021 UPDATE: Repairs on U.S. 19 in the Spanishburg area are under way, according to West Virginia Division of Highways (DOH) District 10 Engineer, Joe Pack.

DOH crews began the work on Monday, March 8, 2021. Pack said traffic could be allowed back on the road by Friday, March 19.


SPANISHBURG, WV (WVNS) 5 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2021 UPDATE: Spanishburg School in Mercer County is closed due to road closures in the area. It is located right along where the sinkhole on Route 19 is located.


SPANISHBURG, WV (WVNS) — A sinkhole closed a portion of U.S. 19 in the Spanishburg area of Mercer County.

According to Mercer County Dispatchers, the sinkhole happened in front of the U.S. Post Office in Spanishburg. Crews with the West Virginia Division of Highways are on scene working to repair the road. They believe it will take about two weeks to finish repairs.
