A tad bit warm to start the week, even more heat through next few days

DISCUSSION: It’s a pretty quiet start to the week this today. Though we are seeing more dry time, a weak disturbance is bringing a few showers to parts of Virginia. A few showers and storms are possible to our east in the afternoon as well, and though most of these looks to stay out of our area an isolated shower could sneak into one of our eastern counties this afternoon.

A few showers possible to the east this afternoon, most of us will be dry.

Temperatures will warm up into the low and mid 80s and we will see plenty of sunshine. Most of us keep things quiet through the evening as well as temperatures drop back into the low 60s. If you think that today’s temperatures are too warm, be prepared for even hotter weather for most of this week!

Monday hourly planner.

As a strong ridge of high pressure builds into the Mid Atlantic on Tuesday, this will help the region lock in a lot of warm air and steer away any potential weather makers. We will be dealing with a stretch of very hot and dry days through the middle of the week. Highs for most of us will be in the upper 80s from Tuesday through Thursday, with some locations seeing low 90s. We won’t be giving the air conditioners a break anytime soon.

Upper level winds will trap in very warm air by the middle of the week.

Mostly dry weather will be favored for the first half of the week, though pop up shower chances look to be back by Thursday. Any widespread rain chances don’t look to present themselves until the end of the week. We will desperately need the rain. We are abnormally dry across much of the region.

Widespread rainfall is looking possible as a stronger disturbance enters the area Friday into Saturday. Keep the umbrellas around for both days. Temperatures look to cool down a bit as the cold front associated with this system brings in cooler air, but we still be near or slightly above average. This cold front should be exiting the area by later in the day on Saturday, though some models are hinting that we could stay unsettled towards the end of next weekend into the beginning of the following week.

It certainly is becoming more apparent that the tropics are active as we approach peak hurricane season. A few different disturbance are still brewing out in the Atlantic Ocean at the, though nothing major has formed at the moment. There is tropical storm Gabrielle, but that does not pose a threat to the US. We are watching closely every day.
