Clearing up through the day

Weather

DISCUSSION: We made big improvements through the region overnight. We are not going to be talking too much about rain, severe weather, or humidity today!

Other than a handful of stray showers through the morning, we see a much nicer day overall. Today is also the first day of summer. With cooler air filtering in, it will not feel too much like summer across the Two Virginias.

High temperatures today will top out in the 70s. Dew points will be 10 degrees lower than they were through most of the week, so you’ll be able to feel the difference in the air pretty clearly! Keep a light jacket nearby, especially through the evening hours. We cool off quickly this evening.

The breezy conditions will relax as we get into the afternoon. Sunshine makes a return. We stay quiet all evening and overnight tonight. With calm wind expected tonight, we will likely see some fog through the valleys. Moisture returns overnight, though lows still fall into the 50s.

Saturday does not look like a washout, but some showers and storms are still possible. We could see a round early in the morning, catch a break during the afternoon and see a few more showers Saturday evening. There will still be time to get out and enjoy sunshine and the weekend. Temperatures warm up into the upper 70s and low 80s. Severe weather is more likely to our south and west on Saturday, with a few lingering storms moving in to our region after dark.

A low pressure system rolling through the mountain west will start chugging along and move into our region sometime late Saturday into Sunday. This will likely bring another round of heavier showers and thunderstorms to the area. Again, flooding is going to be something we need to monitor as we get into the end of the weekend since we have not had a ton of time to dry out.

Monday brings the chance for more rain. Showers are likely and some thunderstorms move in. High temperatures make it into the 80s as we kick off the work week with unsettled conditions. Humidity also looks plentiful. Depending on our set up for Monday, we might have to keep an eye out for a couple of stronger storms. High water is also a possibility.

The pattern breaks down after our frontal passage on Tuesday. Showers are expected through the morning with gradual improvements through the day. It will be a little cooler than Monday, but still near average for this time of year. The big difference will be found in the dew points. We should get a nice break from the humidity by Tuesday evening!

Wednesday looks mainly dry and quite seasonable for the end of June. A mix of clouds and sun is expected with high temperatures in the upper 70s. We need this dry time after all of the rain we’ve seen, so we’ll take it!

Models continue to show more dry time than wet time for the end of the week. We should keep things pretty close to average for temperatures. We may need to keep our eye out for a couple of stray showers here or there, but the pattern looks much drier than what we saw last week. Mother nature is getting her act together so we can enjoy some pool and river time!

More warmth appears likely as we begin to wrap up June. Average highs continue to climb through the new seasoson, with averages into the upper 70s as we get into July. Humidity will start to hang out in the Two Virginias, bringing a more summer-like feeling to the region…which is expected now that it is summer!
