Cranking Up the Heat

Weather

DISCUSSION: Most of us keep things quiet through the evening as well as temperatures drop back into the low 60s. Overall we are in for a dry and mild night. It will be summer-like out there. If you think that today’s temperatures are too warm, be prepared for even hotter weather for most of this week!

Tonight’s Forecast

Tuesday will bring more sunshine and dry conditions. Temperatures are warming up even more. Summer is not done with us yet as highs are expected to reach the upper 80s. We could even have some spots in the low 90s on Tuesday through the coalfields.

The Day Ahead

As a strong ridge of high pressure continues to build into the Mid Atlantic. This will help the region lock in a lot of warm air and steer away any potential weather makers. We will be dealing with a stretch of very hot and dry days through the middle of the week. Highs for most of us will be in the upper 80s through Thursday, with some locations seeing low 90s. We won’t be giving the air conditioners a break anytime soon.

Temperatures Trending Warm

Mostly dry weather will be favored for the first half of the week, though pop up shower chances look to be back by Thursday. Any widespread rain chances don’t look to present themselves until the end of the week. We will desperately need the rain. We are abnormally dry across much of the region.

Hot Across Much of the Country

Widespread rainfall is looking possible as a stronger disturbance enters the area Friday into Saturday. Keep the umbrellas around for both days. Temperatures look to cool down a bit as the cold front associated with this system brings in cooler air, but we still be near or slightly above average. This cold front should be exiting the area by later in the day on Saturday, though some models are hinting that we could stay unsettled towards the end of next weekend into the beginning of the following week.

It certainly is becoming more apparent that the tropics are active as we approach peak hurricane season.
