Showers Return Thursday

Weather

DISCUSSION:  After a warmer day, overnight lows tonight don’t look to be too chilly. Partly cloudy skies will hang around as temperatures drop into the mid 50s for most spots. We will watch clouds increase and that will also help to keep us more mild than the previous evening.

Tonight’s Forecast

A weak cold front looks to enter the region on Thursday, which will increase our cloud cover and bring a few showers to the area. Rain chances have increased since the beginning of the week. Hopefully everyone will be able to get some much needed relief from this dry spell. Clouds will be around and that will allow our temperatures to stay a bit cooler in the low and mid 70s.

The Day Ahead

Friday heading into the weekend, our pattern looks to favor more dry and hot weather. With another strong ridge of high pressure building in, highs in the mid 80s are looking likely during the period. Any showers we do see through the weekend will not impact many people. The drought monitor keeps parts of our area under a moderate drought.

Long range guidance is keeping us very warm even into parts of next week. Highs will continue to make a run at the 80s each day until we get some cooler air to break the pattern. Some models are showing a stronger wave of energy bringing that cooler air in at some point towards the middle to end of the week, though it is too far out to determine the exact timing or impacts we will see from it. Regardless, it will be nice to receive whatever rain and cooler air we can get.

Karen continues to spin as a tropical storm north of Puerto Rico today, though no impact along the U.S. coastline is expected at the moment. Additionally, Lorenzo has now strengthened into a category 1 hurricane. As of right now it’s too soon to say if it will have an impact on the U.S, however with the current pattern, it looks more likely that this storm will also stay out to sea.

Expected Peak For Fall Colors

Fall colors are starting to appear across the region. We are still a ways out from peak color, but you may notice leaves changing already. Most of the area will see peak colors by mid or late October. The further north you head, the quicker leaves change. With the dry spell we’ve been dealing with leaves can potentially fall before they even reach their peak colors, so some spots could be lackluster this year.
