Warm, hot, dry. Again.

Weather

DISCUSSION:  A warm start to the day today is expected. Out at the bus stop, temperatures will be in the low 60s and we will stay dry.

Another warm start this morning.

Everyone stay dry and even hotter through the middle of the week. Another strong ridge in the jet stream will remain in place over the region, keeping the heat locked in and the rain chances very low. Today will feature highs in the upper 80s and low 90s alongside partly cloudy conditions, which isn’t very different from what we’ve already seen this week.

Strong high pressure keeps things dry and warm.

We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of a cold front late Thursday into early Friday.. Rain isn’t looking very likely with this system, so we will probably just notice an increase in cloud cover late Thursday. Unfortunately, that doesn’t help our drought. However, much cooler air will arrive with this front, and that will certainly help our region start to feel much more like fall as we get into the first weekend of October.

Temperatures will be much, much lower Friday into next weekend though. It looks like most of us will struggle to make it above the 70 degree mark on Friday. Even into the weekend, highs in the 70s will stick with us, which is still very nice. Regardless, it will be some much needed relief from the heat that we can all appreciate.

Though shower chances are low this week, we will gladly take whatever rain we can get through the weekend and into this week. The latest drought monitor now includes our entire viewing area under the moderate drought.

Models are starting to agree that we will see our best chance of widespread rain in over a month come Monday. A stronger low pressure system with a decent amount of moisture looks to track just off to our north, and the accompanying cold front will arrive as we kick off the work week. Though this front alone won’t bring enough rain to solve our dry spell, it is certainly looking like it will help.

Expected Peak For Fall Colors

Fall colors are starting to appear across the region. We are still a ways out from peak color, but you may notice leaves changing already. Most of the area will see peak colors by mid or late October. The further north you head, the quicker leaves change. With the dry spell we’ve been dealing with leaves can potentially fall before they even reach their peak colors, so some spots could be lackluster this year.
